Photos of Homer's
time spent with relatives at home and in Ohio.
 |
 |
Homer's mother Emma Kirtland-Hine
at the 707 23rd
North home in Seattle.
The photo is dated 1911. Homer and
Rose's daughter Ruth was born in
late December of that year. This and
the snow in the photo suggest that
Emma may have came to Seattle to help out with the new baby in the
house. |
Daughter Ruth at the
child's play house (known in the family as the
"Wee Mansion") on the lawn of Homer's childhood home in Poland, OH.
While I'm not positive, I suspect that Emma Kirtland-Hine is in the
doorway.
The photo is dated 1913. It appears to me that this and the next
photo
were likely taken the same year but they are dated a year
apart.

Homer holds daughter Ruth
in Poland, OH. in this photo dated 1914. An
inscription on the back identifies the others in the photo
as (standing L to R):
Emma Kirtland-Hine (mother), Rose (wife), Charles Hine (brother) & wife
Helen, Marguerite Hine (niece), Nell Hine (sister), and Alfred Hine
(brother). |

Homer with brothers Kirt and Charles somewhere in
Washington. The
Ohio license plate dates the photo to 1932. Apparently
at least 2 of Homer's
siblings drove to Seattle that year for a visit.

| In
the summer of 1933 Homer and all his siblings (along with
their family members) held a family reunion at their
childhood home in Poland, Ohio which at the time was
occupied by Homer's sister Ellen Louise Hine ("Nell").
Homer and his family likely drove from Seattle and the above
newspaper article suggests that they stopped at the Chicago
Worlds Fair and a dude ranch in Wyoming along the way.
The reunion was well document with photos taken on the lawn
of the home, some of which
appear below. At the time Homer's brother Charles
lived in Cleveland, OH, brother Samuel ("Kirt") lived
near
Youngtown, OH, and brother Alfred ("Alf") lived in
nearby Pittsburgh, PA. |

Homer and Rose are standing at left. Daughter Ruth is
standing 4th from left and son Kirt is seated partially
hidden in back wearing the sports jacket. The others
are some of Homer's brothers, his sister, and various nieces
and a
nephew.
I can't identify the fellow standing at
right.
